VISIT PHILADELPHIA is currently searching for a Director of Accounting to join the team.

Position

The Director of Accounting is a crucial member of the Visit Philadelphia finance team. The Director of Accounting manages all aspects of accounting operations for Visit Philadelphia to ensure that VP exhibits the highest standards for accuracy and accountability. The Director of Accounting is responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger and all other supporting ledgers of the accounting system. The Director of Accounting will work collaboratively with and cross-train the Accounting Manager to ensure the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness for all accounting functions. The Director of Accounting is expected to lead the finance team in the use of technology solutions, including Sage Intacct and Martus budgeting software. The Director of Accounting works with the CFO on various finance and accounting matters including support for the preparation of the annual budget, interim and annual financial statements, the annual audit and multiyear rolling forecasts, along with other special projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform the daily accounting functions of the organization to properly allocate revenues and expenditures in accordance with funding guidelines and recognized cost principles.
  • Oversee the configuration, customization and management of accounting and budgeting software (Sage Intacct, Martus).
  • Regularly analyze financial data and present analyses, reconciliations and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responsible for financial projects and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and project budgets; prepare financial reporting materials for all projects and grants.
  • Review and approve authorized vendor invoices, assuring accuracy and budgetary alignment.
  • Ensure the timely execution of month-end and annual closing process, including bank reconciliations, account analyses, posting journal entries and final adjusted trial balances.
  • Maintain required records, reports, and files in an organized manner.
  • Assist each department in tracking and reviewing expenditures and perform revenue and expense budget versus actual analysis to confirm accuracy of allocations.
  • Support the CFO in producing accurate, understandable fiscal reports for a variety of audience/stakeholders, including the finance committee, the board, leadership and department staff.
  • Assist the CFO with the budget planning and forecasting.
  • Assist the CFO in preparation for the annual audit including preparation of account analysis, payroll records, expense reporting and other schedules to support footnotes.
  • Assist the CFO in the evaluation, development, maintenance and documentation of fiscal policy and procedures that ensure compliance with GAAP and appropriate internal control
  • Work with the COO to manage, process, and maintain Vendor/Customer Contracts.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • BA or BS in Accounting, Finance or relevant field required.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in non-profit financial and accounting management.
  • CPA or public accounting experience preferred.

Key Technical Skills or Applications:

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting and nonprofit accounting
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Proficiency in accounting software systems, experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
